About This Event

Gallery Closed Sundays, Mondays and Holidays "Dreamscapes & Spaces Between" is a collaborative body of work by Cyd Peroni and Nancy Miiller that uses the metaphor of dreams to explore the conscious and the unconscious, the real and the imagined, the certain and the maybe, the controllable and serendipitous. The pair work side-by-side blending their individual photographs, hearts and minds to create one unified image. Through distortion and photographic layering techniques, they use familiar elements like water, the human body, plants, and animals as entry points into hidden meanings, questions about accepted norms, and how perceived reality may affect our views. Using translucent silk, the material alludes to dreams, those barely remembered and those that feel hyper real. The movement of the fabric suggests the continuous flow of unconscious thoughts and feelings that affect our relationship with the physical world around us.

Cyd Peroni is a fine art photographer drawn to explore the Japanese concept of mono no aware, an awareness and appreciation of the impermanence of things and the transience of time. Her images are strongly influenced by poetry and the metaphors found in the natural world. Peroni searches for the often-unnoticed moments and their deeper spiritual and emotional meanings. Her images hold details that tug instinctively at something deeper than reason and logic. Peroni experiments with digital, traditional, and alternative photographic processes, along with a range of papers and materials such as precious metals and encaustic wax. She likes to convey the artist’s hand in her work and searches for the best combination of process and materials to communicate universal human emotions and stories. She is an alumna of Eye Lounge, a contemporary art space established in 2001 committed to fostering emerging and established visual artists in downtown Phoenix; a founding member of the Arizona Photography Alliance; and a member of Art Intersection, ArtLink Phoenix, and Los Angeles Center for Photography. Her work is held in private collections, has appeared in various publications, and has been shown nationally in solo and juried group exhibitions such as Eye Lounge (Phoenix, AZ); The Halide Project (Philadelphia, PA); Medium Festival of Photography (San Diego, CA); A Smith Gallery (Johnson City, TX); Light Art Space (Silver City, NM); The Flinn Foundation (Phoenix, AZ); Art Intersection (Gilbert, AZ); Found:RE Hotel (Phoenix, AZ); Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Fine Arts Center (Wheeling, WV); Schorr Gallery (West Jordan, UT); University of Utah Museum of Natural History (Salt Lake City, UT); and Kimball Arts Center (Park City, UT). Peroni lives with her husband in the Sonoran Desert north of Phoenix, Arizona where she loves listening for the sound of owls in the darkness before sunrise and watching clouds form along the foothills before a monsoon rain.

Fine art photographer Nancy Miiller grew up in Rhode Island and began her artistic endeavors early. From painting at age nine to three studies of concentration at Rhode Island College (graphic design, painting, and photography), she grew to love all things creative. I grew up in Rhode Island, in a city historically known for textile mills with a large population of French Canadians. It was a place where you could hear people speaking both English and French no matter where you went. In our neighborhood community we had a YWCA, and that is where I learned to oil paint; I was nine years old. I just loved it and continued at the YWCA classes until college. During these years, I entered competitions, neighbors asked for a painting and even got featured in the local newspaper. During my years at Rhode Island College, I concentrated in three areas: graphic design, photography and painting, as part of my degree. My photographic work focused on landscapes and daily life at home. I loved the ocean and found close-up work of seaweed captivating and inspirational. After graduating and moving to Boston, I found a job as a graphic designer. Over time, I moved west to Arizona and continued my career. But I missed working on my own art, the fine art aspects and so I returned to my love of photography to develop my talents further. I studied with mentors to hone my style to where I am today but still love evolving. In my life, I am captivated by the question of “Why do we see, what we see?” The idea of perceived perception is a thread through my work; capturing and/or creating what our eyes do not see. I use manmade objects and the natural world as subject matter, to create images that challenge the viewer’s own perceptions, begging the question, “Is that real?” I have exhibited my work in solo and juried group exhibitions in galleries throughout the United States. Galleries include, FotoNostrum, Barcelona, Spain, Mayo Clinic, Central Gallery of Phoenix, Art Intersection, Found:Re, AZ, A Smith Gallery, TX and Light Art Space, NM. Honorable mention awards include the 24th and 18th Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women, and the ND Awards. Published work includes: the August 2023 Special Issue of Black & White Magazine Merit Award, and the October 2021 issue of LensWork. My fine art prints are also held in private collections.
