About

Abbey Messmer, originally from Dallas, Texas, received a B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from University of North Texas. She lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona, balancing time between local non-profit Scottsdale Arts and her studio art practice from La Melgosa on Grand Ave. in downtown Phoenix. Messmer's exhibited at Phoenix Art Museum, Mesa Arts Center, Herberger Theater Center, Shemer Art Center, Estrella Mountain Community College, Monorchid, and participated in a project called Art360 with the Arizona Science Center where her work was animated and projected on the dome of the Dorrance Planetarium. Messmer was a member of Phoenix art collective Eye Lounge from 2012-2015 and was a Contemporary Forum Arts Grant recipient in 2015. She was an Artlink Artist Council member from 2018-2024. Her work contemplates the fluid nature of perception and reflects the fragility of our physical and mental states.

Jackie Marlowe Nature Photography Show

Jackie Marlowe's incredible nature photography will be up for one-weekend only, April 4-6. From wild horses at the Salt River to striking vistas and critters of the Southwest, Jackie is clearly an outdoor enthusiast, obsessed with wildlife.

Abbey Messmer + Rafael Navarro: OPEN STUDIO

Abbey Messmer and Rafael Navarro are opening their studio for Art Detour 2025 starting First Friday March 7th and also Saturday March 8th. Look for a colorful building labeled La Melgosa (next door to Pueblo plant shop). Go through the main double glass doors of La Melgosa and walk down the long colorful hallway to the very last studio at the end and experience a big open space with a beautiful courtyard. It’s a hidden gem you won’t want to miss. Showing paintings and sculpture by Abbey Messmer and Rafael Navarro + small works by friends.

The Fire Followers and other drawings by Jimmy Fike

Please join us to view a unique collection of drawings created by Jimmy Fike. These small and highly detailed colorful drawings reference nature and bizarre fever-dream narratives. We also celebrate as Jimmy’s work will be featured in “Radical Futures,” the September issue of Southwest Contemporary magazine. The exhibition will be open for viewing on Third Friday September and First Friday October
